Google Voice

Google Voice is a new offering from the search engine behemoth that has its tentacles reaching out to a variety of new services.

I'm not too clear on the specifications and functions just yet, so let me take a look.

Wow, this is actually really amazing! I find the free SMS and transcribed voicemails very appealing. I may have just heard about this a few days too late - I just signed up for 250 text messages per month for $5. I could see Google Voice making a device like the Nokia N900 a really sweet device for use with VOIP and SMS.

Its only invite only at this time, so I've just requested an invitation.

Google already has Google Talk, but that's a little different. If I understand correctly, "GTalk" is for XMPP, aka instant messaging. I think it supports VOIP to a certain degree as well, I'm not sure if it connects with the POTS (plain old telephone systems).
