The most exciting thing in networking lately is the freeing up the white space waves - it won’t happen anytime soon, but it will happen eventually.
Besides that, wireless keeps trudging forward with progress. Wireless-N is coming about, and mesh networking is getting better and better.
Hopefully pfSense will incorporate mesh networking in the next release, but I think they are focusing instead on GRE. GRE tunneling will be great to have too!
