One hour into the evaluation, the KR2 is throwing down some impressive ease-of-use and out-of-the-box functionality, with some gotchas along the way.
The ZyWALL 2WG is still dead in the water.
Let me explain - I need a 3G router to connect to my Verizon Wireless EV-DO network. With the KR2, it just worked when I turned it on, no config necessary. Wow! The 2WG hasn't recognized the card yet. Is it a firmware issue? Not sure yet, I may end up having to return the ZyWALL.
The major problem with the KR2 is that its not compatible with Iceweasel. It works with Epiphany-Webkit, but it crashes a lot.
I updated the firmware on the 2WG, still no go. I think it might be faulty hardware, as the PC Card LED does not even light up when I insert the card.
I'm now updated the KR2, hoping that the new firmware will solve the browser issues.
Today I returned the ZyWaLL 2WG to Amazon, the KR2 works fine, and I'm able to use my pfSense firewall behind it. Also, its interesting to note that the admin console of the KR2 can be accessed by Iceweasel once authentication is done by Epiphany-Webkit.
